The University of Mauritius Gymnastics Championships 2012 was held on
Saturday, 01 December 2012 at the UOM gymnasium, Réduit. The championships, organised by the University of
Mauritius Gymnastics Club and
sponsored by Bullet Energy Drink, registered a good number of participants from
the UOM Gymnastics Club as well as from the Sly Ninjas Gymnastics Club of Flacq.
The event was graced by the presence of Iana de Morelos, a Russian
professional gymnast and coach who recently launched a Gymnastics Academy in
Mauritius.
Suraj Geerdharry, chairman of the jury panel expressed gratitude to the
organizing committee which consisted of Yadevi Perumal, Barkha Roopchand,
Tejashnee Nepaul, Parameshwari Dorasami and Sarvesh Lutchmun, and went on to affirm
certain good performances but also call for improvement in certain
aspects. It is to be noted that Suraj Geerdharry was a former instructor at Sly Ninjas
Gymnastics Club who received his trainings through professional gymnasts from
Denmark.
At the end of the championships, the SN Gymnastics Club, coached by
Bhrij Lutchmun, won 6 gold medals which were awarded to Christopher Ramsamy, who
won 3 gold medals for his brilliant performance in three different categories, Ravindar
Seedam, Kevin Ashley Armoogum and Prakash Jhurry. The UOM Gymnastics Club,
headed by Ravi Kumar Chaundee, was adjudged 3 gold medals due to the remarkable performances of Adjmeer Hossen Mohamed,
Bilaal Ahmad Subratty and Shabanaz Chamurally.
The event
was enhanced with a Tae Kwon Do demonstration offered by Le Dauphin Tae Kwon Do
Club of Flacq led by Master Kemraj Aucklah.
